The ground-breaking African Marketing Confederation (AMC) was founded in 2011 when marketing associations from four African countries met in Livingston, Zambia, to discuss the status and development of the marketing profession across Africa.
Collaboration between the various national bodies and associations was deemed to be of the utmost importance in order to exchange expertise and information, as well as to promote the development of the marketing profession as a whole. The idea to unify bodies in the various countries led to the establishment of the pioneering Pan-African confederation that is the AMC, an umbrella organisation that seeks to grow the marketing profession on the continent by working through its member bodies to reach the vast number of practising marketers in Africa. This inaugural gathering of marketing minds also observed that the African continent’s unique and varying cultures, histories, languages, educational levels, as well as the varied standards of infrastructure, require local and home-grown marketing approaches and strategies, designed and nurtured by Africans themselves.
The result: the African Marketing Confederation, a Pan-African body of marketing professionals spearheading the ongoing development of the highest possible standards of marketing across Africa. Set strategies to achieve this include research projects, education initiatives, professional publications, networking forums, and mechanisms to recognise and reward achievements at both a corporate and individual level.
The recent launch of the apex qualification for the African marketing professional is the prestigious Certified Professional Marketer Africa (CPMkt(A)). This sought-after achievement is the first Africa-wide professional marketing qualification of its type and is regarded as the pinnacle of marketing education for the senior and serious marketer.
